How To Calculate The Cost Of Bathroom Renovations

The cost of all bathroom renovation projects are different. Even if the same person built your house and your neighbor’s house, the cost to renovate the bathrooms would be different.  There are so many variables to keep in mind which contribute significantly to costs.

Size Of The Floor Space

In order to calculate the costs of bathroom renovations, you need to know how many square feet of floor space needs renovation.  Even if you aren’t planning on changing the floors, you’ll need to know the square footage of the walls.  Knowing exactly how much space you are working with will determine what materials you need and how much you can purchase within your budget.  You’ll be working with several measurements, so be sure to write them all down.  If you are not sure, guess that you have more square feet rather than less.  That way you’ll be sure you have what you need and won’t be short on materials.

Choosing Materials

Choosing materials is another important part of figuring the cost of bathroom renovations.  Understanding what materials you want and can afford will help you develop an accurate budget.  Perhaps you can contrast some decorative tiles with plain (and cheaper) tiles made from synthetic or composite materials.  Perhaps you planned on tiling the walls and the floor.  Knowing what you want to do and what materials you want to use will help you determine if you can afford to make those changes.

Labor

Don’t just go with the first contractor that gives you an estimate.  Shop around.  Always get the estimate in writing.  This estimate should be free.  The estimate should include the cost of labor and materials to be used.  Only do it yourself if you have experience.  Doing the job yourself when you haven’t so much as hung up a shower curtain before will escalate the cost of bathroom renovations beyond your wildest dreams.
